Mt. Baker Kennel Club appreciates the Thunder!

On Saturday, May 19, 2012, Zeus (GCH Gingerbred Celestial THUNDER) decides to rest from a long week of hunt training while his kids take the trip to Lynden, WA, for the Mt. Baker Kennel Club dog show. While outside playing retrieve and “that’s my ball” with Bala (CH Rimrock Anlan of Balbriggan), we hear good news from the show. Zeus and Bala’s DJ (Misty Mountain Stomp the Yard) won Winners Bitch on her 6-month birthday and very first time in the show ring! And, DJ’s half-brother, Thor (Misty Mountain Hammer of the Gods) won Winners Dog and Best of Winners. Thor is owned and loved by the wonderful Gevings. Thanks to Judge Col. Joe B. Purkhiser who recognized the “Thunder” and gave major AKC points to these (half) siblings. DJ and Thor not only love the show ring, but also are fantastic hunters and have fun with Papa Zeus during weekly hunt training – watch for them at a future hunt test!

Kika takes Best in Show at Vero Beach, FL, show!

BIS CH Chambrays Celestial N Counte r (Kika) is taking the show ring by storm and making “papa” Zeus proud. Just weeks after finishing her championship as a pup of 14 months old, she wins BOB, Group 1, and then Best in Show! Wow! How very exciting to have a Best in Show in the family! Congrats to the Merrero family (owners) in Miami Lakes, FL; Valerie Till (co-breeder); and the Herzon family (co-breeders/handlers) for raising and showing such a wonderful pup. Thanks to Judge James White for his super selection.

Sugar Kane (Misty x Zeus) recently earned her Championship taking 2 majors with Toni at the end of the lead. We chose to breed her to Hubble (GCH Ghoststone’s Otterly Fantastic Hollywood JH) who is our wonderful Prada’s brother. A litter of blacks and yellow are due in early June and will be ready to go to their new homes at the end of July.

Sugar Kane is striking not only because of her light coat, but also her strong movement showiness in the show ring. She is always willing to please and loves to share her excitement about a toy, a treat, or life in general. Her mother, Misty, and grand mother, Bica, have given Sugar Kane the best temperament.

Hubble has a wonderful temperament that makes him a great family dog, yet the drive of a true retriever who loves the birds and the showmanship of a grand champion in the show ring. His lovely coarse, correct coat, thick otter tail, and nice angles will hopefully make him a wonderful dad to some beautiful pups.

Another Zeus pup is making waves … in Australia! AlpyneAir Thunder Down Under (Eli) who just turned 3 months old entered the show ring for the first time in Australia this weekend and won his Baby Puppy (3-6 month old) class and Best Baby Puppy both days then on Sunday took Best Baby Puppy in Group and competed for Best Baby Puppy in Show. For the Aussies that are reading this, this makes total sense. For the rest of us, you are likely confused about – it’s a long, involved explanation and I hope to write an article on Australian Dog Shows in a future issue of Retriever Life to explain.

Eli competed against his sister AlpyneAir Southern Cross (Bronte) who also won her class both days; however, it was Eli’s weekend. Zeus and Mom “Ella” (Aust Ch Kirkdell Destined To Be) are very proud parents and can’t wait to hear more good news from the show ring. Congrats to Scott and Bridget Washington who are the breeder/owner/handlers! Thanks for raising these beautiful dogs.

Flash is a New Champion!

On Saturday, April 14, 2012, Lavonne Hara entered the show ring at the Windward Hawaiian Dog Fancier Association with her extraordinary dog, Flash and exited the ring a grand spankin’ new AKC champion (CH Misty Mountain A Cut Above WC)! Thanks to Judge Shirley Limoges for this exciting win! Congrats to Lavonne and Flash who look so fabulous in the ring together. Flash’s sister, Laeahi is a CKC (Canadian) Champion and his other sister, Diamond, is showing and hunting in hopes to add some titles to the family. Prada and Zeus are very proud parents.

On April 14, 21012, Judge Leta Graham picked Chloe as Winners Bitch over 20+ Labradors at the Terry-All Kennel Club in Brighton, CO. Lou, Chloe’s owner/handler, is very proud of her and happy that he can be in the ring with her when she struts her stuff. Congratulations!

Morgan’s Hot Diggity Pups have arrived

Four precious pups were born on 2/27/12 to proud mom Morgan (Gingerbred Morgan) and Digger (BISS Lor-als Hot Diggity WC JH). A single chocolate male accompanied by 2 black males and 1 black female. Zeus wins Best of Breed at Seattle KC Show

On March 11, 2012, Zeus was awarded Best of Breed by Judge Richard Beauchamp under the excellent handling of Tonya Struble. Cheering him on were his son Thor (who placed 1st in his big puppy class) and two of his daughters’ (Laeahi and Diamond) who placed in their classes, but more importantly were celebrating their 1st birthday! Celebration all around.

Bica wins BOS over Specials in Seattle KC Show

On Marh 10, 2012, Bica (CH Nipntuck Jumpstart JH) entered her first show as a veteran as she turned 7 years old in February 2012. She had the most wonderful time in the show ring winning the Veterans class unchallenged then taking Best Opposite Sex (BOS) in the Best of Breed ring over 2 female specials. Congrats to both Bica and Toni!

Belated congratulations to Chantelle and Laeahi for taking Canada by storm – winning multiple Best Puppy in Breed and Best Puppy in Group – and then being crowned a New Canadian Champion! Laeahi has had a busy puppyhood and will continue to show in the U.S., and train for hunt and obedience. Way to go, MBPIB, BPIG Can CH Misty Mountain Diamond Head Hula Girl WC!
